Writing 101, Day Seven.
Focus today’s post on the contrast between two things. The twist? Write the post in the form of a dialogue.
“So how far is it from Athens to Santorini?” he asked, sitting down behind her with his iPad.
She was already in the process of looking it up on Google maps. A few seconds passed.
“Ugh. Ten freaking hours.” she said with open disgust.
“Is that by plane or by boat?”
Another brief pause.
“GOD. BOAT. Ten hours by BOAT?” she said incredulously. “Uh, yeah NO.”
“What do you mean ‘no’“? he asked, his head popping up from his iPad.
“Um, I mean NO?” she replied emphatically, turning to face him. “There is no way in hell I am sitting on a BOAT for TEN HOURS. Especially not when it’s, like, a fifty minute flight.”
“But I thought we agreed that the whole point of this trip was for us to experience the country we are traveling through. How are we experiencing anything if we’re flying over it all?” he asked.
She let out a sharp sigh of frustration. “I’ll tell you what I’m not experiencing – a ten hour freaking boat ride with me puking my guts up the entire way. It’s going to be frigging open water for hours and hours and hours – gee, what a great experience!”
“Fine, whatever,” he muttered, returning to his iPad which signalled the end of the discussion. “I’ll meet you in Santorini then.”
